03 Oct 2009 : Starting over...
By : Stephane

I always said, if something go wrong just start over and it will be better....

Well I didn't like how the lofting came out, so I patched all the holes yesterday and paint all over it today ... 2 weeks job erased.

Lofting is a important part, this is where I will get all the measurement of the boat, if this is wrong and I don'T feel confident about it, I think it will just make matter worst during the rest of the project. ;)

But with the experience I now got, and great advice from the designer I am sure everything will be more accurate and faster this time.

27 Sep 2009 : White oak news, lofting 3/4 done.
By : Stephane

Slowly but it's getting there.
Lofting the boat is a interesting and educative experience! The lines are getting there slowly, I take my time to have them fair and my eyes take time too, but I surely love the curves I will need to do!

We also received news for the white oak we want for the backbone. It's a high price, but it's high quality too ... and will be all full size timber for the backbone, no glue needed. Some pieces are quite huge in there!

Catherine will be back tomorrow with the cheap car we just bought ... Will be easier hunting for jobs around (No local bus here).

Yesterday we finished the grid for the lofting, we also bought a cheap car for Catherine so she can found some work around here. Today I installed electricity in the boat shed for the tools everywhere, I was having enough of switching the extension every time I needed a tool!

Now that the electricity is done, we can finish the isolation to keep the warm inside and the cold outside of our living area!

Looking to continue the lofting process after that.

Finally received news about the white oak I am waiting for the main part of the boat, should have the final news tomorrow. With this we received news that the huge band saw we are waiting for will arrive in 2 weeks, yeah!

20 Sep 2009 : Joshua out, Lines In!
By : Stephane

Hi,
we started the day by removing Joshua from a rented trailer of a friend. Lacking facilities here for doing this kind of job we improvised with what we have found ...

Everything worked well as we slowly pull Joshua out of the trailer.

We also started the grid for the lofting, the grid it's lines all around the floors to give reference mark to draw the boat full size...

Some lines came out at 1/32 of a inches off(less then 1 mm) so we will try to redo them tomorrow!

Starting from today, we will try to put pictures and news everyday online.

06 Sep 2009 : Getting installed
By : Stephane

Hello all...
So here we are on land getting ready to start our boat building project...

Since the 2 last weeks we are working like crazy to finish the boat building shed and build a living area into the roof to live on. We slowly getting things together and begin to have Internet more often so we can put pictures online soon.

Joshua as been haul out 2 days ago and now lay in our backyard, we removed all our material before getting out and it's incredible the amount of stuff that can be packed in such a small space. The waterline raised 2 inches ...

We also sold our windvane (It won't work with our next boat, and I will make a simpler system) so it give us some cash flow to start everything. During the next week I should start the lofting, this is the process of drawing the boat full scale to have all the curves and pattern to make all the parts, like a huge plan. Should be fun...

We have been also on the land of the father of Catherine and spotted some nice maples and other trees that we will cut down this winter to make the inside of the boat with this wood... I won't say no to a nice maple table or galley!

Give you more news soon!
Take care all!

Stéphane & Catherine.
